Track and get real-time status updates for UPS shipments.
24hTrack is a free lookup site, not UPS. We don't sell or deliver parcels — we show you the scans the carrier has published.
UPS — United Parcel Service — is one of the largest package delivery companies in the world, headquartered at 55 Glenlake Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia. The company states that it serves customers in more than 200 countries and territories, moves 20.8 million packages a day with roughly 460,000 employees, and booked $88.7 billion of revenue in 2025. Its stated purpose is “Moving our world forward by delivering what matters.”
If you are holding a UPS number, the useful thing to know is that it is not a random string. A domestic UPS parcel number is 1Z followed by sixteen letters and digits — eighteen characters in total — and each part means something: six characters identifying the shipper's UPS account, two digits for the service level (03 is Ground, 01 is Next Day Air, 02 is Second Day Air), seven characters identifying the package, and a final check digit whose only job is to catch a typo. That is why a mistyped 1Z number is usually rejected outright rather than returning somebody else's parcel.
One wrinkle that surprises people: a parcel can start on UPS and finish with the post office. On UPS Ground Saver, the economy service that used to be called SurePost, UPS often hands the last leg to USPS, so the final scans can read like postal scans and the parcel arrives with ordinary mail rather than in a UPS van.
Ships for: Online retailers and marketplaces shipping within the United States, Businesses shipping internationally across more than 200 countries and territories, Sellers using UPS Ground Saver, where USPS often completes the final leg
Tracking number format: 1Z followed by sixteen letters and digits, eighteen characters in total (six for the shipper account, two for the service level, seven for the package, one check digit)
Typical delivery time: Measured on parcels tracked on the 24hTrack platform over the last 120 days, a UPS parcel that is still moving when you first track it here reaches a delivered scan a median of about 4 days later, and 80% within about 7 days. Along the way UPS publishes roughly a dozen scans per parcel — pickup, each sorting hub, the out-for-delivery scan and the delivery itself — which is why the timeline on a UPS number is usually one of the fullest you will see.
Based on delivered packages tracked on the 24hTrack platform, UPS shipments take a median of 4 days from first carrier scan to delivery — 80% arrive within 10 days. See full carrier statistics →
Knowing where your parcel is makes it easier to plan the day you collect it. With 24hTrack you don't need an account on UPS's website. Paste the tracking number in the box above and we work out which carrier it belongs to and show you every scan UPS has published, on one page.

It starts with 1Z and is eighteen characters long in total: 1Z, then six characters for the shipper's UPS account, two digits for the service level, seven characters for the package, and one check digit at the end. Almost every UPS number people paste here follows exactly that shape. If what you have is shorter, longer, or does not begin with 1Z, it is probably a reference number from the shop rather than the parcel number — ask the seller for the one that starts 1Z.
Because the label exists but the parcel has not been handed over yet. UPS creates the number the moment the shipper prints the label, and nothing moves on the timeline until the first physical scan at pickup or drop-off. A day or two of silence at that stage is ordinary; if it stays that way for several days, the parcel is still sitting with the sender and the seller is the only one who can move it.
No — that is how the economy service works. On UPS Ground Saver (previously SurePost) UPS carries the parcel most of the way and then hands the final leg to USPS, so the last scans can look postal and the parcel turns up with your mail instead of in a UPS van. The number you already have keeps working through the handover.
Measured here over the last 120 days, a UPS parcel that is still in transit when you first look it up is delivered a median of about 4 days later, with 80% arriving inside about a week. International lanes sit at the long end of that, because the clock includes customs.
No. Paste the number and the full scan list is free, with no sign-up and no app. An account is only worth it if you are waiting on several parcels and want them kept in one list that refreshes itself.
