Unusually for this part of the industry, the prefix is the carrier's own name — the overwhelming majority of numbers are XYPOST followed by ten digits. That makes them easy to recognise on an order confirmation. A small number of parcels routed through partners carry a different-looking reference instead.
The two normal gaps are the same as on any consolidated cross-border service: nothing happens between label creation and physical collection, which can be several days, and few or no scans occur while the parcel is on the international leg and in customs. Persistent silence after your country has recorded an arrival is the case worth pursuing, since by that point a local carrier should be reporting events.
A carrier in the destination country. xypost handles the origin and international portion of the journey and then hands the parcel to a local postal operator or courier for the final delivery, so the closing events on your tracking will often carry that carrier's name. Sellers can sometimes supply that second, local number if the xypost number has gone quiet.
Economy cross-border shipping is measured in weeks rather than days, and the clock only starts at the first real carrier scan, not at checkout. Use the delivery window your seller promised as the yardstick — if you are past it with no arrival scan in your country, the marketplace order is where a refund or replacement is actually decided.
