Canada Post (Postes Canada) is Canada's national postal operator, a federal Crown corporation that delivers letters and parcels across the country and runs the post offices, community mailboxes and parcel lockers that go with them. Its own tracking service covers items it carries inside Canada as well as items going from Canada to the United States and overseas.
There is a second, less obvious reason a Canada Post number ends up in your hand. When a parcel is posted in another country and sent to a Canadian address, the postal operator abroad carries it as far as Canada and Canada Post completes the final leg after customs. There are two forms, and Canada Post publishes both. A domestic item delivered inside Canada normally has 16 digits and no letters, for example 1111 1111 1111 1111. An item going to the United States or overseas — and a prepaid envelope or label — has 13 characters instead: two letters, nine digits, then two letters, for example AA 111 111 111 AA. Both shapes turn up on the 24hTrack platform, the 16-digit one most often. If yours is shorter or longer than that, check it was copied whole, including any leading zeros. Paste it on the 24hTrack home page and the carrier is worked out from the number itself, so you do not have to choose Canada Post from a list first.
It means the sender has created the label and told Canada Post that a parcel is coming, but Canada Post does not physically have it yet. It is one of the most common lines on a Canada Post history and the one people misread most often — it is an announcement, not a movement. The next real step is a scan such as "Shipment picked up by Canada Post", "Item accepted at the Post Office" or "Item processed". If the page sits on that first line for several days, the parcel is still with the shop, so chase the seller rather than Canada Post.
The line "Delivered to your community mailbox, parcel locker or apt./condo mailbox" means the item was completed at your assigned mailbox rather than handed to you at the door. For a parcel too large for the mail slot, that usually means a nearby parcel compartment with a key left in your mailbox, or a notice telling you which post office is holding it. Check the mailbox and any card before reporting the item missing, and if neither turns up anything, raise it with Canada Post — only the carrier can say which compartment or office was used.
