It depends much more on the destination than on the service. Deliveries between Metro Manila and other major cities move quickly, while provincial and island destinations add time for the sea or air leg and for the final run by a local branch or agent. Weather is a real factor — typhoon season regularly suspends sea legs for days, and the tracking simply stops updating until sailing resumes.
The most common reason is that the shipment is on a leg with no scan point — in transit between islands, or waiting at a provincial hub for the next dispatch. There is no single public format. AP Cargo issues references at the branch that accepts the shipment, and different services produce different-looking numbers — some are purely numeric, others mix letters and digits. Use the number exactly as printed on the receipt; if it is a waybill from a partner or agent, that partner's number may be what actually tracks.
Usually only to the point of export. Outbound international courier shipments are handed to a partner carrier or the destination country's postal operator for the final leg, and that leg is tracked under a different number.
