24hTrack is a free lookup site, not An Post. We don't sell or deliver parcels — we show you the scans the carrier has published.
An Post is Ireland's national postal operator. Its own site describes letter and parcel delivery alongside a retail network and financial, mobile and government services — passports and TV licences among them — but the part that matters for a tracking number is the post: An Post collects, sorts and delivers items across Ireland and hands over items coming in from abroad.
What the numbers on the 24hTrack platform show is that An Post histories are mostly about items arriving in Ireland rather than leaving it. Nearly all of them use the international 13-character form ending in IE, the prefixes that come up most are CP, RL, CL, CB and CD, and the wording An Post itself uses — "We have received information about your incoming item from the sender" — is written from the receiving end. If you ordered from a shop abroad and your tracking is An Post, that is the normal picture: a postal operator in the sending country carried the parcel to Ireland, and An Post is finishing the job.
Ships for: Irish online shops and marketplace sellers posting within Ireland, Shops abroad whose parcels are handed to An Post for the final leg to an Irish address, Anyone posting a tracked or registered item at a post office in Ireland, Businesses sending tracked parcels from Ireland to the UK and overseas
Tracking number format: 13 characters — two letters, nine digits, then IE, for example CP000000000IE. Almost every An Post number on the 24hTrack platform uses exactly that shape, and the prefixes that show up most are CP, RL, CL, CB and CD. The IE at the end is the country that issued the number
Typical delivery time: On the An Post items that ran all the way to a delivery scan on the 24hTrack platform — a modest sample, so treat these as rough — half reached the door in about 10 days and the slowest fifth took around 19 days or more. The waiting is concentrated before the parcel reaches Ireland. Measured across An Post numbers that have a history, the longest quiet stretch on a typical item is around 11 days, and about two thirds go a full week or more with no scan at all, which is why "not updating" is usually not a problem to be solved.
Knowing where your parcel is makes it easier to plan the day you collect it. With 24hTrack you don't need an account on An Post's website. Paste the tracking number in the box above and we work out which carrier it belongs to and show you every scan An Post has published, on one page.

Two letters, nine digits, then IE — for example CP000000000IE, 13 characters in total. Almost every An Post number on the 24hTrack platform uses that exact shape, and the prefixes you will see most are CP, RL, CL, CB and CD. If yours is longer, shorter, or has letters in the middle, check that it was copied whole. Paste it on the 24hTrack home page and the carrier is worked out from the number itself — you do not need to pick An Post from a list.
It means the sender has told An Post that an item is on its way, but An Post does not physically have it yet. It is one of the most common lines on an An Post history and it is an announcement rather than a movement. The next real step is "Your item has been handed to An Post" or "We have your item and will process it for delivery". On an order from abroad, several quiet days at this stage are normal: the parcel is still with the sending postal operator and has not reached Ireland.
It means the delivery was completed by leaving the item in a place agreed for your address rather than handing it to someone at the door — a porch, a shed, a designated spot a previous instruction set up. Check that spot first, and anywhere a card might have been left. If nothing is there, raise it with An Post: the delivery record, including where the item was left, sits with the carrier, and a seller cannot see it.
Long gaps are the normal shape of these journeys rather than a sign of trouble. On the 24hTrack platform the longest quiet stretch on a typical An Post number is around 11 days, and about two thirds of them go a full week or more with no scan at all, because nothing is scanned during the international leg or while an item sits in a customs queue. Scans resume once the item is in Ireland, with lines such as "We have your item and will process it for delivery" or "Your item is being sorted by the local delivery provider". If the newest line is still the sender's notice after a couple of weeks, ask the shop to check it was actually posted.
On the items that ran all the way to a delivery scan on the 24hTrack platform — a modest sample, so treat it as rough — half arrived in about 10 days and the slowest fifth took around 19 days or more. That reflects mostly cross-border orders coming into Ireland rather than a parcel posted and delivered inside the country, which is a shorter, different service. Posted service standards for a specific product come from An Post itself.
"Your item is now available for collection" means the item is being held for you rather than delivered — usually because it needed a signature, would not fit, or nobody was in. The card or notification tells you which location is holding it and how long it will be kept. If you did not get a card, An Post can say which office has it; the shop you ordered from cannot.
Yes. Paste the number on the 24hTrack home page and you get the status and every scan An Post publishes, with no account and no app. A free account is only there if you would rather have the item saved and re-checked for you than paste the number again, and you can paste several numbers at once.
